Keeping your site private until its launch

Squarespace hides your website from the public during your free trial period, but it's unlikely you will complete your website and have all the finishing touches applied before your Squarespace trial ends. Therefore, you need to take measures to ensure your site stays private and hidden from the public regardless of whether you are in your trial period or not. You can do this by setting a Site-Wide Password in the Security & SSL section.

You may want to use your normal Squarespace account password here, so you don't have to remember another one. However, if you will be showing your site to colleagues, choose a different password and don't forget to write it down.

If you have set a Site-Wide Password, anyone who visits your website will be presented with a Lock Screen: an empty page with a box to enter the password, as shown in the following screenshot:

You can change the appearance of the Lock Screen to match your company’s branding, if you like. Further information and instructions on how to modify your Lock Screen’s appearance can be found here: http://bit.ly/sqsp-lock-screen
