Born in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province in Dec. 1934, Prof. Xu Guihua joined in the PLA Navy in Jan. 1951. Being admitted to Economics Department of Fudan University in 1956, he had been teaching and researching there as Professor in Economics and doctoral supervisor for decades since 1961. He earned his fame as an eminent economist in comparative economics of contemporary China by revolutionarily defining and framing the concepts of “China's socialist market economy” and “China's joint-stock economy” among others in 1990s. He did extensive researches in the field of economics, comparative economic system, comparative economic theory and contemporary Chinese economy. His works include: Theory and Policy Research on China's Reform and Opening-up (1991), Preliminary Explorations into Theories on Comparative Socialist Economic (1992), China's Ownership Structure and Property Rights Policies (1996), Public Ownership and Joint-stock Ownership (1996), Public Ownership and SOE Reform (1998), China's Socialist Political Economics (2008), China's Strategic Choices for Economic Security (2014), The Road to China's Socialist Market Economy (2014), etc.
